Connected Canada 150

The challenge
Connected Canada 150 is a conference put on by the University of Ottawa that brings together major players in the Canadian media and communications industry. They asked me to design a logo for them, to use on their website and other materials leading up to and during the conference in Ottawa.

The team wanted a logo that had a hint of fun while also being polished and professional-looking. Folks had to know right away that communications and technology were at the heart of this event.

The concept
The conference takes place during 2017, which is the 150th anniversary of Canada's confederation. Something that was iconically Canadian was needed, as was a reference to modern technology and communication. I opted for connectivity bars, representing the internet--our most widespread and powerful communication platform today. The maple leaf brings in the Canadian feel, and the colours are reminiscent of the garnet and grey that represent the hosting University (University of Ottawa). And finally, the very angular, boxy font brings in a bit of professionalism and seriousness, so that conference-goers know it's the real deal. The elements come together to create a logo that is simultaneously clean, modern and iconic.
